Hey folks, since several people have spoken up about the lack of movement on the project, I thought I'd give a quick update.
We've got plenty of people who are interested in seeing this project move forward - unfortunately, few willing or able to help with the actual development. I had hoped to pick up at least one or two other developers by now. This project is sufficiently audacious that I can't hope to achieve the goals I set for it by myself, in the time I have available for it. I'm happy with the work that's been done so far and I'd like to see it continue. If/when other developers start contributing, I'll be happy to get back to work on it. Until then, my contributions to it will be spotty.
So, if you know some C++ and you'd like to see this forward, let me know!
If you're interested in language development and you're willing to try something new, you can also check out another project I'm involved with, Crack: http://code.google.com/p/crack-language/

Crack looks cool, but why? Do we really need another C/C++-like language??
Short answer is no, we don't really _need_ another c/c++ language. But, in the same way that the LLVM is spawning entirely new versions of existing, functional tools (clang for gcc/g++, libc++ for gnu libstdc++, lldb for gdb, etc), the goal with Crack is simply to "do it better" (mainly with regards to performance) while still "using the existing wiring" - meaning any programmer of a c type language can take advantage of the performance benefits of Crack immediately.
It's very hard to get a new language off the ground, and Crack's wide adoption is far from certain. But, it's a project I enjoy working on for now, so we'll see where it goes.
If one was decent at C++ and knew PHP, do you have any recommendations on how to get the basics down for building languages/interpreters, in order to work on this project?
I thought it was going to be some boring old post, but it really compensated for my time. I will post a link to this page on my blog. I am sure my visitors will find that very useful.
Brilliant stuff, man! What you have to say is really important and I am glad you took the time to share it. What you said really spoke to me and I hope that I can learn more about this. Thanks for sharing your opinion. I am yet to find anything as enlightening as this on the web.
Thanks for sharing its going to go a long way in making things simple. With this kind of sharing we are sure that we can go to new heights.
